The Crown Treatment Process
Dental crowns are fixed prosthetic devices used to restore damaged or missing teeth. Unlike removable devices such as dentures, crowns and bridges are cemented onto existing teeth or implants and can only be removed by a dentist.
Both crowns and bridges can be made from a variety of materials, including porcelain, ceramic, gold, or a combination of these. Your dentist will help you choose the most suitable option based on your individual needs and preferences.
Initial Consultation and Assessment
Your dentist will begin by examining your teeth, taking X-rays, and discussing your concerns and treatment goals. If a crown or bridge is suitable, a treatment plan will be outlined, and any necessary preparatory work—such as treating decay or performing a root canal—will be completed.
Tooth Preparation and Impressions
The affected tooth (or teeth) will be carefully shaped to allow room for the crown or bridge. Once prepared, your dentist will take impressions or digital scans of your mouth to ensure a precise fit. A temporary crown or bridge may be placed to protect the area while the permanent restoration is being made in a dental laboratory.
Fitting and Final Placement
At your next appointment, the temporary restoration is removed and the final crown or bridge is tried in. Adjustments may be made to ensure a comfortable fit and natural appearance. Once you’re happy with the result, it will be permanently cemented into place.

Benefits of Crown & Bridge
Restores Tooth Function
Crowns and bridges help restore proper chewing and speaking abilities, allowing you to eat and talk comfortably without discomfort or difficulty.
Improves Aesthetics
They are designed to match the colour, shape, and size of your natural teeth, enhancing the appearance of your smile and giving you a more confident look.

Prevents Tooth Movement
Bridges fill the gaps left by missing teeth, preventing neighbouring teeth from shifting out of place, which can lead to bite issues and further dental problems.
Provides Long-Lasting Protection
Crowns offer strong and durable coverage for damaged or weakened teeth, protecting them from further wear, fractures, or decay.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a dental crown?
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over a damaged, decayed, or weakened tooth. It restores the tooth’s shape, size, strength, and appearance, and is securely bonded into place.
What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. It consists of one or more artificial teeth, anchored in place by crowns fitted to the natural teeth or implants on either side of the gap.
Are crowns and bridges noticeable?
Modern crowns and bridges are designed to blend in with your natural teeth. They can be made from tooth-coloured materials such as porcelain or ceramic for a natural-looking result.
How long do crowns and bridges last?
With proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, crowns and bridges can last many years—often between 10 to 15 years or more.
