White Fillings Birmingham

White Fillings Treatment Process

White fillings, also known as composite fillings, are a natural-looking alternative to traditional silver (amalgam) fillings. They are made from a tooth-coloured resin material that blends seamlessly with your natural teeth, making them an ideal choice for those who prefer a more discreet and aesthetic result.

White fillings are used to restore teeth that have been damaged by decay, wear, or minor fractures. The material bonds directly to the tooth surface, helping to support the remaining structure and prevent further damage.

At our practice, we take great care to match the filling shade to your natural tooth colour, ensuring a result that is both durable and virtually invisible.

Examination and Preparation

Your dentist will begin by examining the tooth to assess the extent of the damage or decay. If a filling is needed, the area will be gently numbed using a local anaesthetic to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.

Removing the Decay

Any decay or damaged parts of the tooth will be carefully removed, and the area will be cleaned and shaped in preparation for the filling. This helps ensure a strong bond between the tooth and the filling material.

Placing the White Filling

The tooth-coloured composite resin is then applied in layers. Each layer is hardened using a special light. Once all layers are in place, the filling is shaped and polished to match the natural contours of your tooth, ensuring a comfortable bite and a seamless appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding is a cosmetic dental treatment where a tooth-coloured resin is applied to the teeth to improve their appearance. It can be used to repair chips, reshape teeth, close gaps, or mask discolouration.

No, the procedure is generally pain-free. In most cases, it doesn’t require any drilling or anaesthetic, making it a comfortable option even for nervous patients.

With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, composite bonding can last anywhere from 3 to 7 years. Its lifespan depends on factors such as the location of the bonding, your diet, and your habits.

Yes. The composite resin is carefully matched to the colour of your natural teeth and shaped to blend in seamlessly. Most people won’t be able to tell you’ve had any dental work done.

Yes, although it’s best to avoid staining foods and drinks (such as coffee, red wine, or curry) for the first 48 hours. Composite can stain over time, so it’s wise to rinse after consuming such items.

It’s not considered a permanent treatment, but it is long-lasting and can be easily maintained or repaired if needed.
