Frequently Asked Questions
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a titanium post surgically placed in the jawbone to replace missing teeth. It provides a strong foundation for a crown, bridge, or denture.
How long do dental implants last?
The procedure is typically performed under local anaesthesia, ensuring minimal discomfort. Post-treatment pain is usually manageable with prescribed medications.
How do I care for my dental implant?
Maintain good oral hygiene with regular brushing and flossing. Regular dental check-ups are essential for ensuring the longevity of your implant.
DENTAL IMPLANTS
Restore your teeth as they are. Restore your mouth's full functionality and change the way you grin.
In order to create a foundation for a crown or bridge that is put on top of it, a titanium insert is placed into the jawbone.
HOW IS IT WORKING?
The natural dentition of the patient can be restored by using dental implants to replace missing or extracted natural teeth. Like a natural tooth, they are basically a titanium implant that functions as a “artificial tooth root” that rests in the jawbone and offers a solid base on which crowns, bridges, or dentures can be positioned.
WHAT ADVANTAGES ARE THERE?
There are several reasons why people lose their teeth, such as decay, gum disease, old age, or trauma (when teeth are knocked out). It is crucial to replace lost teeth for both practical and cosmetic reasons, regardless of the reason. Because they provide a long-term solution, slow down bone loss, and maintain neighbouring good tooth tissue, dental implants are currently regarded as the gold standard for restoring missing teeth.

CAN I REPLACE MORE THAN ONE TEETH?
You may not necessarily require an implant for every tooth that is missing if you have multiple missing teeth. With a bridge or denture, one implant can hold up several teeth. The volume and density of bone tissue present at each implant site determine how many implants are needed. Smaller “mini implants” are frequently used to hold dentures or bridges supported by implants in place.
A minimum of five to six implants per jaw are usually needed for full-mouth reconstructions, which are procedures in which an arch of several teeth needs to be maintained in either the upper or lower jaw. After a comprehensive examination and assessment, your implant surgeon will be able to advise you on the best course of action. The precise number of implants required will depend on the specific circumstances of each case.
WHAT IS THEIR LENGTH?
Dental implants resemble your natural teeth in appearance, feel, and functionality. Dental implants have an average lifespan of ten years, but they can last a lifetime with the right upkeep and care.
Why do certain implants not work?
The following are some situations when implants might not be appropriate or where there is a higher chance of implant failure:
Heavy smoking: The healing process is slowed down and impeded by smoking.
Drinking too much alcohol: Alcohol interferes with the implant site’s ability to recover.
Active periodontal (gum) disease: To guarantee long-term success, gum disease must to be addressed prior to any implant treatment. One of the main causes of bone loss that would make any implant treatment less successful is periodontal disease.
Immunocompromised people: Patients receiving radiation therapy, those on steroids, and those suffering from autoimmune illnesses may be more vulnerable.
Bruxism, a disorder that causes teeth grinding, can place too much strain on implants. To manage it, a nighttime splint could be suggested.
After evaluating these variables, your dentist or implant surgeon will suggest the best course of action.

BONE GRAFT
In order to install implants, it might be required to grow new bone to replace lost tissue. In some cases, the bone or graft materials may be the patient’s own bone extracted from other parts of the mouth when it is available, animal-based goods, synthetic replacements, or specifically prepared human donor material from a “Bone Bank.”
TREATMENT TIME
The length of treatment varies from case to case. It is crucial to understand that receiving an implant is not a quick repair for missing teeth and that the entire procedure may take many months.
BENEFITS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Enhances your beauty and smile
- Restores the function of the mouth
- Reduces the rate of bone loss or degradation
- Improves emotional health
Risks associated with implant treatment include, but are not restricted to:
Common risks: Pain or discomfort, bruising, swelling, bleeding (the creation of a haemorrhage), or infection are all linked to surgical implant implantation. These dangers should be minimised with sufficient care and precise technique.
Local structure damage: There is a chance that nearby structures including teeth, the sinus, or nasal perforations could sustain injury, as well as the jaw, nerves, or blood vessels. These dangers are negligible with appropriate planning.
Gum line recession or scarring: The gum line may experience some slight recession, although this will eventually go away. As part of the normal healing process, the gums surrounding crowns, veneers, bridgework, and neighbouring teeth may somewhat recede. The need for further treatment may result from this. The ability of each patient’s gums and bones to mend after having a tooth extracted or having an implant placed cannot be precisely predicted.
Extra treatments: Bone grafting and other procedures may be required if there is insufficient bone or gum tissue.
Mechanical issues/breaks: The implant materials may have mechanical issues, such as cement failure, screw loosening or breaking, acrylic or porcelain fracture, or implant fracture. The dentist will evaluate the situation and provide appropriate advice if this does happen.
Implant failure: An implant’s 5-year success rate is typically about 80%. Only a small percentage of implants require removal due to failure. After enough healing time, a replacement implant can usually be inserted. Patients with poor oral hygiene and those who smoke have increased failure rates. We at All Saints Dental are pleased to offer a three-year implant guarantee from the date of implantation. This guarantee excludes trauma or neglect of the implant and is subject to the patient attending regular maintenance reviews every 6 months.
Gum recession and tooth sensitivity: Following implant surgery, several teeth may have elevated gums. This may cause long-term sensitivity in the area around neighbouring teeth. The operation may also cause the gums to recede away from the teeth next to the implant.
Unexpected events: Unknown oral problems may alter the initial treatment plan during the course of treatment. This possibility requires permission for the treating physician to apply their best discretion in light of the recently discovered conditions, preferably after consulting with the patient.

Are you a good candidate for a dental implant?
Most patients with completely grown jawbones can have dental implants inserted as long as they have enough bone tissue, both in terms of quantity and quality. Dental implants are appropriate for the majority of healthy people who practise proper oral care.
Your eligibility will be assessed during your consultation, when a CT scan or X-ray will be taken to make sure there is sufficient healthy jawbone for the implants to be accepted. You will receive a customised, personalised treatment plan.
