Classic Signs Suggestive of fixed braces post treatment

Minimal Discomfort

After your braces are fitted, mild discomfort and soreness are common. These should subside within a few days, and pain can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief.

Oral Hygiene Maintenance

Maintaining excellent oral hygiene is crucial. Brush after every meal, use floss, and follow your dentist’s advice to avoid plaque build-up around the braces.

Regular Adjustments

You will need to visit your dentist or orthodontist regularly for adjustments. These ensure that your braces continue to move your teeth into the desired position effectively.

Dietary Restrictions

Avoid hard, sticky, or chewy foods as they can damage your braces. Stick to soft foods, and cut larger items into smaller pieces to avoid putting undue pressure on the braces

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will the discomfort last after getting fixed braces?

Discomfort is common in the first few days after the braces are fitted, but it should subside within a week. Pain relief can help manage any soreness.

Avoid hard, sticky, or chewy foods as they can damage the braces. Stick to softer foods and cut larger items into smaller pieces.

Brush after every meal, use interdental brushes or floss to clean between the brackets, and maintain good oral hygiene to prevent plaque build-up and decay.

Congratulations! Your fixed appliance has been installed.

At first, your fixed appliance could feel odd. It’s quite typical to experience some mild discomfort in the initial days following a bond-up. Please be advised that your lips, cheeks, and tongue may become irritated by the brackets that are glued to the tooth, leading to sores and ulcers. Mild face oedema is possible in several situations. Your teeth may feel loose and sensitive as the wire slowly moves them into position. This will settle; it’s only temporary.

We advise applying tooth wax to lessen bracket and wire irritation. Simple over-the-counter painkillers like ibuprofen and paracetamol can be used if necessary (as long as there are no known medical contraindications).

Use a mouth rinse made by dissolving salt in warm water several times a day to relieve irritation and inflammation.

  • Consume soft foods until you can resume your regular activities and become used to wearing the device.
  • Steer clear of items that are sticky or hard since they can become stuck in the device and break or harm it.
  • Don’t use your front teeth to bite onto anything. Instead, use your back teeth to chew food after breaking it up into small bits.
  • Curries, bolognese sauce, black coffee, and red wine are among the foods and beverages that should be avoided since they contain large amounts of food colour and will discolour the elastics.
  • Keep the parts and bring them to your next appointment if you break any of the appliance’s parts. Emergency appointments are often reserved for individuals who are in agony; broken parts do not require one. Please give our staff a call if you have any questions; they would be pleased to provide guidance.

Maintaining good oral Hygiene

  • After eating or drinking, wait 20-30 minutes before cleaning your teeth. Clean your teeth after everything you eat or drink.
  • Clean every morning and night with an interspace brush or super floss. It’s important to clean around the brackets and under the wires.
  • Use a fluoride mouthwash to help dislodge any food stuck in the brace.

WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU MAKE REGULAR VISITS TO THE DENTIST OR DENTAL HYGIENIST FOR A PROFESSIONAL CLEAN EVERY 4-6 MONTHS DURING YOUR TREATMENT.
