Save Your Natural Tooth with Precision Endodontic Care

The Root Canal Treatment Process

Your Path to a Healthy, Pain-Free Tooth

Root Canal Treatment (RCT), also known as endodontic therapy, is a procedure aimed at treating infection or inflammation within the tooth’s pulp. This treatment allows for the preservation of your natural tooth, alleviating pain and preventing the need for extraction.

Consultation and Diagnosis

A thorough examination, including X-rays, is conducted to assess the extent of pulp damage and determine the necessity for RCT.

Local Anaesthesia

The affected area is numbed using local anaesthesia to ensure a comfortable, pain-free procedure.

Pulpectomy

The infected or inflamed pulp tissue is carefully removed from the root canals.

Cleaning and Sealing

The emptied canals are meticulously cleaned, shaped, and then filled with a biocompatible material to seal them and prevent future infections.

Restoration

To restore the tooth’s functionality and appearance, a permanent filling or crown is placed. Timely restoration, typically within 30 days, is crucial to prevent reinfection or structural failure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment involves the removal of infected or inflamed pulp from within the tooth, followed by cleaning, disinfecting, and sealing the root canals to preserve the natural tooth.

With modern techniques and anaesthesia, RCT is generally no more uncomfortable than having a filling placed. Our specialist endodontist ensures patient comfort throughout the procedure.

While RCT has a high success rate, potential risks include instrument separation, perforations, post-operative infection, or tooth fracture. Our specialist takes every precaution to minimise these risks.

With proper care, a tooth that has undergone RCT can last a lifetime. Maintaining good oral hygiene and attending regular dental check-ups are essential for longevity.

Alternatives include tooth extraction followed by replacement options such as implants, bridges, or dentures. However, preserving the natural tooth through RCT is often the preferred and most cost-effective option.
