Tooth Extraction
At Sunna Dental, we are a high-quality dental clinic providing professional dental services and treatments to patients in the Birmingham area.
Tooth Extraction
If you are looking for a calm comfortable and stress-free dental experience then we are the practice for you. At Sunna Dental we offer a range of different treatments all under one roof. Our mission is to ensure that all our patients have easy access to the best possible standards of dentistry complemented by outstanding standards in customer service.
ASSESSMENT & PREPARATION
Each patient will first receive a full dental examination, including gum health checks and X-rays where necessary. This allows our team to determine if the tooth can be saved or if extraction is the best course of action.
DISCUSSION & CONSENT
If extraction is recommended, your dentist will explain all treatment options, associated risks, the procedure, expected outcomes and costs. Consent will be obtained once you’re fully informed.
THE EXTRACTION PROCEDURE
The area will be numbed using local anaesthetic before the tooth is carefully removed using specialised dental instruments. You may feel some pressure, but the procedure itself should be pain-free.
AFTERCARE & REVIEW
A follow-up appointment may be arranged to check healing and address any concerns. Minor adjustments can be made if needed. Your comfort and recovery are our priority.

Dental Services

When is Tooth Extraction Needed?
Tooth extraction might be necessary in cases such as:
- Severe tooth decay that cannot be repaired
- A large chip or crack in the tooth
- Trauma or injury to the tooth
- Failed root canal treatment (RCT)
- To relieve crowding (especially before orthodontic treatment)
- To prepare for dentures
- Impacted wisdom teeth
Tooth Extraction
SEVERE TOOTH DECAY
When tooth decay extends deep into the tooth and compromises its structure, an extraction may be required to prevent further infection and preserve your oral health.
IMPACTED OR OVERCROWDED TEETH
If a tooth is impacted (commonly wisdom teeth) or if there’s overcrowding in your mouth, extraction can help make space and support proper alignment, especially prior to orthodontic treatment.

INFECTION OR ABSCESS
In cases where infection has reached the tooth’s pulp and root canal treatment isn’t viable or effective, removing the tooth may be the best course of action to avoid spreading the infection.
ADVANCED GUM DISEASE
Periodontal disease can loosen teeth by weakening the tissues and bone supporting them. In advanced stages, extraction may be necessary to protect your remaining teeth and gums.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the procedure be painful?
Local anaesthetic is used during the procedure to ensure you’re comfortable. You may feel some pressure, but you shouldn’t feel pain. Post-extraction discomfort is usually mild and manageable with over-the-counter medication.
What is the recovery time?
Most patients recover within a few days. Resting, avoiding hard foods, and following the aftercare instructions provided will help speed up healing.
Can I return to work the same day?
This depends on the complexity of the extraction. For simple extractions, you may feel well enough to return to normal activities the next day. Surgical extractions may require more rest.
ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT OPTIONS
Your dentist will discuss alternatives, which may include:
No treatment (with explanation of consequences)
A dental filling, if appropriate
Root canal treatment
Referral to a hospital specialist for complex extractions
